    What is Google Scholar?

Google Scholar is a Google search engine specifically aimed at scholarly literature. You can think of it as the academic version of the standard Google search engine.

    With Google Scholar, you can:

Search for scholarly articles, theses, books, abstracts, and citations. Scholar searches various academic publishers, professional organizations, online repositories, universities, and other scholarly websites.

    • Discover related works, citations, authors, and publications. For many search results, you can see who has cited the article.
    • Locate the full-text of a document through your library or directly on the web (when available).
    • Stay informed about recent developments within a research field. You can set up alerts for specific search terms to receive notifications when new relevant publications appear.
    • For researchers: check who is citing your publications and create a public author profile.

    Usage

Setting up Scholar for improved results

To the right of the search results, Scholar shows you links to the full-text (when available). Such a link can also be Find@Hogeschool Rotterdam for articles from library databases. Don't see any Find@-links? Use one of the following options to set this up:

    Tips

    • A wealth of information can be found via Google Scholar and START, but keep in mind that neither is exhaustive. Statistics, corporate data, and visual materials are often only available through specialized websites. Additionally, searching directly within a specific database can yield more relevant results. Therefore, do not rely on Scholar as your sole source.
    • Google Scholar allows you to export article citations to a reference manager. However, these citations may contain errors. For the most reliable bibliographic data, it is better to use the export features provided by the original source itself.
