Hanneke Torij is a (not practising) midwife. She obtained her Master of Science Midwifery at Glasgow Caledonian University. In 2006, she was the founder of the Information and Research Centre of the Midwifery Academy Rotterdam. She was project leader of the Rotterdam Ready for a Child programme's 'pregnancy' phase, and also she was project leader of a project concerning early pregnancy care in collaboration with the University of East London. Since 2013, she is project leader of the Regional Consortium Pregnancy & Childbirth Southwest Netherlands. Her PhD research focusses on vulnerable pregnancies and on developments in the profession of clinical midwifery.

Professor Midwifery & Childbirth
In 2013, Hanneke Torij was appointed as the first professor Midwifery & Childbirth in the Netherlands at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. In 2006, she was the founder of the Information and Research Centre of the ‘Midwifery Academy Rotterdam’ (Verloskunde Academie Rotterdam).
