Application process

Unfortunately, it is not possible to apply as a free-mover (non-degree, fee-paying student). Only students from a partner university (with a valid partner contract) can apply for one of our exchange programmes. If your home university would like to discuss collaboration possibilities, they can send a contract proposal to

All our exchange programmes are at Bachelor level only and are listed on our website, but not all exchange programmes are offered each semester. For an up to date overview of the exchange programmes we offer in the upcoming semester, please contact the international office at your home university as they have received this overview from us by email. It will also depend on your study field, study background, your motivation and the partner agreement that we have with your home university. We kindly ask you to choose a programme in close consultation with your home university.

Please note that we can’t always guarantee that students will be accepted to their 1st programme preference (e.g. due maximum capacity programmes or not meeting the requirements based on study background). Therefore we will ask you to indicate your programme preferences during your online application: 1st, 2nd and 3rd preference.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to combine courses from different exchange programmes. Each exchange programme offers a fixed course package, which means that we don't offer single courses to exchange students. The study load of almost each exchange programme is 30 ECTS.

Fall semester: April 1st – April 25th
Spring semester: October 1st – October 25th

Rotterdam UAS uses the software tool Mobility Online to process all incoming exchange applications. You need to be nominated by your home university first, before you can apply online. After you have been nominated by your home university, your home university will upload your nomination into Mobility Online. We will review your nomination and if your nomination has been approved, you will receive an email from us with a login for Mobility Online so you can apply online. Please follow the instructions in the email and/or consult our website for more information about our application procedure.

It also possible to apply for a full academic year, but it depends on the partner agreement that we have with your home university. Please contact the international office of your home university for more information about the possibilities.

Unfortunately, we do not offer scholarships to incoming exchange students. Please contact the international office at your home university to explore your possibilities for financial funding.

Language requirements:

All exchange programmes are taught in English. That is why all exchange students are required to have an English level similar to IETLS 6.0, CEFR B2, or TOEFL 550 / iBT 80 / 213 cBT. You do not have to send us an official English test score, but we trust our partner universities to only nominate students who meet this requirement.

Chinese students

Students with a Chinese nationality must provide a Nuffic certificate to be eligible for a Dutch entry visa and enrolment in an English-taught study programme. For more information on this subject, please read Permits & Visa.

Specific admission requirements

Each exchange programme has its own admission requirements. If you select a specific exchange programme and scroll down to the header “practical matters”, you will find the admission requirements for that particular exchange programme.

Yes, you need to upload:

  • Transcript of Records: With all the courses and grades you have obtained so far.
  • CV: With an overview of your academic and professional history.
  • Motivation letter or a motivation video: Depends on the exchange programme you selected as your first choice. For more information, please refer to the admission requirements for your programme of interest.

Note: Students have to select a top 3 choice when applying online. However, please focus on your 1st choice when you write your motivation letter or record your motivation video.

All students, and partners, will be informed about the student’s acceptance within 3-4 weeks after the application deadline. If we have to ask you to transfer to another (similar) programme, we will contact you and your home university as soon as possible during or shortly after the application period.

The exact start and end date vary per exchange programme. Most exchange programmes start early September (Fall semester) or early February (Spring semester) and end late January (Fall semester) or mid-July (Spring semester). But we also have exchange programmes that run for a shorter amount of time and end earlier. The exact start and end date will be announced in the Letter of Acceptance (you will receive this document within 3-4 weeks after the application deadline), but for an indication you can check the website of that particular exchange programme.

You can send your documents (e.g. certificate of arrival/confirmation of stay) to for a signature.

For Erasmus+ students only: At Rotterdam UAS the Learning Agreements are signed by the programme coordinators as we (the Centre of International Affairs) are not involved in academic related matters. Please upload this document to our application system Mobility Online. The programme coordinator will sign your Learning Agreement and upload it again to Mobility Online. Only after you have officially been accepted you will be able to upload your Learning Agreement.

We strive to send the Transcript of Records within 5 weeks after the end of the exchange programme. We (the Centre of International Affairs) are not involved in academic related matters and do not have access to academic information such as grades, so we work closely together with the different institutes to send the Transcript of Records in time. If you have content questions about the Transcript of Records, please contact the programme coordinator directly (email address will be mentioned in the email you receive from us) and they will be able to assist.

Please send an email to the Centre of International Affairs - team Exchange:
