In addition to her work as a professor, Poelmans is also affiliated with Scalda, an institute for senior secondary vocational education. In this position, she works on the theme of Learning in Hybrid Learning Environments. She previously worked at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, where she was involved in innovation assignments as a trainer and researcher, and in the Hybrid Learning Environments Programme. Poelmans has a linguistic background and obtained her doctorate with a thesis on Second Language Acquisition. Her work is motivated by connection and the idea that working with multiple perspectives and contexts is always enriching.
