Aartje is a linguist. After years of working in Utrecht as a supervisor to lecturers of Dutch as a second language (NT2), she ended up as a project officer and developer at the CED group in Rotterdam. Over time, she broadened her field of work there and started advising schools in secondary education and vocational training on language-oriented subject teaching.
Since 2008, she has been working as a lecturer at the Dutch teacher training college at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. She teaches linguistics subjects, NT2 and language-oriented subject teaching. Since 2010, she has also been working as a researcher at the Research Centre Urban Talent.
PhD research
This PhD research is an experiment in teacher training in mathematics and biology with a further application in preparatory secondary vocational education in the subjects biology and mathematics. Writing is the central way of learning. It is expected that students and pupils will increase their knowledge and understanding of a subject through written learning.
