Course content
Do you strive for perfection and demand a lot from yourself, but sometimes feel like nothing you do is good enough? Do you tend to procrastinate on big assignments because you fear not doing them well enough or perfectly? And do you keep revising your work because you feel it still isn't good enough to submit? Perfectionism can help you achieve your goals, but it can also negatively affect your life. In this elective course, you will learn more about your perfectionism and practical ways to manage it.
Note! This training does not completely remove the obstacles caused by perfectionism. It is a basic training meant to guide you.
This training is aimed at learning how to better manage your perfectionism. You gain more insight into your own thoughts and behavior, and you receive practical tools. The focus is on practicing and sharing experiences.
The topics covered during this module are:
- Perfectionism and performance – What is unhelpful perfectionism and how does perfectionism affect performance;
- Your perfectionism cycle - Draw your own perfectionism cycle and break it;
- Practicing different behavior;
- Changing thought patterns - Identify perfectionistic thought patterns and challenge them to change behavior;
- Self-evaluation and self-compassion – Dealing with your inner critic, how your self-image influences your perfectionism and the role of self-compassion;
- How to deal with busyness and stress;
- Explore where your perfectionism comes from, what it has given you, and what it costs you now;
- Relaxation exercises;
- Load and capacity; Attention is paid to how activities affect your well-being and your studies.
Explanation of the theory, assignments based on the reader, homework, videos, exercises (plenary, in small groups, pairs, or individually), and relaxation exercises.
The assessment consists of:
- Attendance requirement: the first lesson has mandatory attendance; if you miss the first lesson, you can no longer join. In one of the following lessons, the student may miss a maximum of two sessions. Missing three or more sessions means not passing the training.
- Completing the homework assignments.
- Participating in a coaching session halfway through the elective.
- Submitting the final assignment (reflection assignment and a personal plan): a practical plan on the topic: How to manage my perfectionism. In this reflection, describe what your signals are, what helps you and what does not help you, and what support you can use. Also include a reflection on what you have learned during the lessons. Make use of your personal learning goals during the training as well.

Furthermore: no starting level is required other than that you have the personal learning goal of better managing their perfectionism. It is a preventive training to better deal with your perfectionism; it is not a treatment.
This course is open for enrollment, but you must write a motivation letter explaining your reasons for taking this elective and what you would like to learn or develop. Participation in this elective requires that you are perfectionistic and willing to actively work on it. This ensures that the entire group can experience a safe learning environment and learn and develop in the best possible way! You will receive notice from the teacher two weeks before the start of the elective. Failure to submit a motivation letter and/or not meeting the requirement means you cannot participate.
