    Medical circumstances

    Have you been taken ill, and expect to be ill for some time? Are you expecting an operation? Are you suffering from a chronic disease? These are all situations that could delay your studies. Visit the student counsellor to find out what can be done to limit study delay as much as possible.
    Family circumstances

    Family circumstances

    If something is going on at home with your family, it can distract you from studying. Is something happening at home such as a family member who is ill (long-term illness) or perhaps a death in the family? If for a period of time you could use some extra help, visit a student counsellor to find out what you need to successfully complete your higher education study programme.

    A stupid term, really, because it can also enrich your life. But it is the standard term used in higher education, so it’s what we use. Three out of ten students are challenged in some way, for example, because of dyslexia, ADHD, or a chronic illness.

    Little concentration, disturbed sleep, quick to panic: these are symptoms of a depression, anxiety disorder, or another issue concerning your mental health. Of course this will affect your studies. Read what you can do to study as effectively as possible.

    A little stress due to an assessment or presentation: we have all been there. When something is important, of course you want to do well, so you will naturally experience some tension. But don’t let it get in your way! When you are truly in a state of panic writing a report, or if you’re sitting an exam and your mind is a blank, maybe you are experiencing fear of failure. Luckily you can do something about it.
