    The 'STudy And Research Tool' for Rotterdam University

    START is the library's search engine. In this 'Discovery Service,' you will find e-books, books, articles, reports, theses, and more from a wide range of sources. In short, it is the starting point for your research or when you simply want to look up a textbook.

    The library offers a large number of databases. Some are general, while others specialize in a specific subject. Through START, you can search almost all of these databases simultaneously.

    With START, you can:

    • Find all of the library's textbooks and journals.
    • Search dozens of databases at the same time.
    • Reserve textbooks (via Rotterdam University WorldCat).
    • Save search results to your personal account.
    • Search in AI mode (natural language search) to orient yourself without having to create complex search queries.

    General tips

    • Use the "Natural language" toggle for the AI search mode. This allows you to ask questions like: how does greenery improve urban well-being? Your question will then be converted into a search query by Claude Haiku. It will also be translated to English if necessary .
    • Pay attention to the automatic search suggestions and completions; they help you find the exact title of a book more quickly.
    • Use the All filters button to narrow down your results. This also allows you to limit your book search to a specific library location.

    about searching in START

    When you only want to search books, use the Source Type button to filter the search result.

    When you select "Peer Reviewed", you only get search results from publications that contain articles that have been reviewed by other scientists.
