    NL scholarship

    For Bachelor and Master programmes

    The NL Scholarship is a scholarship for talented students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who are coming to the Netherlands for a bachelor’s or master’s degree. The EEA consists of the EU countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The NL Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences.

    Scholarship amount

    The scholarship amounts to € 5,000. You will receive this in the first year of your studies.

    Application criteria

    • Your nationality is non-EEA.
    • You are applying for a full-time bachelor’s or master’s programme at one of the participating Dutch higher education institutions. 
    • You meet the admission requirements of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
    • You have never before obtained a degree at an education institution in the Netherlands.

    The following programmes of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences are eligible for the NL Scholarship:

    Willem de Kooning Academy - Bachelor programmes

    Piet Zwart Institute - Master programmes

    Scholarship amount

    The scholarship amounts to € 5000. You will receive this in the first year of your studies.

    Application criteria 

    • Your nationality is non-EEA.
    • You are applying for one of the above mentioned programmes at Willem de Kooning Academy/Piet Zwart Institute - Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
    • You have no previous education in the Netherlands. This includes students making a switch from a different department or institute.

    How to apply

    • Write a letter of motivation (max. of 2 pages A4 size.):
      Explain why you want your to study at WDKA / PZI as well as your choice of study. What are your learning goals and what do you hope to achieve from this study? How will this scholarship benefit you?
    • Fill in this statement of financial resources

    Email both your letter and financial statement to  wdka.admission@hr.nl before May 1st 2025. 

    Please put the following information in the file names:
    - Full name
    - student number
    - name of study / major. 

    For example: Lisa Andrews_1234567_Photography_motivation

    Please note that the number of scholarships we can hand out is limited, so unfortunately not everyone who meets the requirements will receive a scholarship.

    The following programmes of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences are eligible for the NL Scholarship:

    Rotterdam Mainport Institute - Master programme 

    Master Shipping and Transport

    Scholarship amount

    The scholarship amounts to € 5000. You will receive this in the first year of your studies.

    Application criteria 

    • Your nationality is non-EEA.
    • You are applying for the full time Master Shipping and Transport at Rotterdam Mainport Institute - Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
    • You have no previous education in the Netherlands. This includes students making a switch from a different department or institute.
    • Your overall English proficiency score is at least equivalent to IELTS 7.0, with no subscores lower than 6.5.
    • Your average grade on your Bachelor diploma is at least 8.0 or higher.
    • You agree to become a Programme Ambassador which includes participation in promotional activities for Shipping and Transport.

    How to apply

    • Submit a short video to explain why you choose Shipping and Transport (max. of 3 minutes, max. of 500MB):
      What are your learning goals and what do you hope to achieve from this study? How will this scholarship benefit you?
    • Submit a two-page research proposal on the topic of energy transition in the maritime sector.

    In case we receive more than 10 applications, a preselection will be done and a maximum of 10 students will be selected for an online interview with representatives from Shipping and Transport.
