This paper present the preliminary findings of a recently started research project on the organic redevelopment strategy of the Rotterdam City Ports organization in the MerweVierhavens area (M4H) and its particular context. An overview of the area and roles of the involved actors is given from the perspective of a network acting together. The development strategy focusses on actively facilitating the (local) network with its market en social initiatives by the City Ports organization. Special attention is given to the role of ‘iconic endusers’ – here Studio Roosegaarde - in the area and their (expected) impact on the redevelopment of M4H. In doing so the chosen experimental status of M4H within the City Ports could prove to be a valuable lab for organic area development for the whole of Rotterdam.
