Building a Future-Proof Economy Together
Rotterdam Business School (RBS) has taken an important step in strengthening the connection between education, research, and practice. During an inspiring kickoff event, the Impact Council was officially launched. Professionals from the business sector, alumni, and thematic directors came together to help shape RBS’s direction in the field of societal impact.
With the Impact Council, RBS underscores its ambition to contribute visibly and meaningfully to the major transitions of our time. The council plays a key role in safeguarding the relevance of education and research, actively contributing to the development of the Impact Agenda. In addition, the council evaluates the results of interdisciplinary, mission-driven projects in which students, lecturers, and practice partners collaborate to create real impact.
The Impact Council helps RBS further strengthen its profile as a forward-looking business school and reinforces our position as a knowledge partner in the city and region. We collaborate on themes such as the purpose economy, circular economy, digital transformation, and leadership in transition, giving concrete form to our motto: “making the future”. Our students not only learn their profession, but also make a valuable contribution to an economy that prioritizes well-being, sustainability, and innovation.
Council members also actively collaborate with students. A great example is Rijkswaterstaat, where nine students from various disciplines are currently involved in projects around data in the North Sea region. They contribute directly to areas such as maritime safety. Rijkswaterstaat is enthusiastic about their ingenuity and pragmatic approach — even with limited resources, they manage to connect with installations in the North Sea.
The launch of the Impact Council marks more than a symbolic moment. It is a strong step toward a recognizable and proactive role for RBS in the transitions shaping our society today and in the future.
