Language

Although Dutch is the national language, most people also speak English and often another foreign language, such as German or French. It is possible to survive without any Dutch language skills. However, picking up a few words and phrases is always a bonus.

Safety

The Netherlands is a safe country by international standards. There is a relatively low level of violence and street crime. The police are friendly and helpful; they have a duty to protect everyone and you can always feel confident approaching them for help.
