Resignation of Executive Board member Zakia Guernina

01 May 2023

After 5 years on the Executive Board of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, Zakia Guernina has decided, in close consultation with the Supervisory Board, to terminate her position as a member of the Executive Board with effect from 1 May 2023. Until 1 August 2023, she will be involved in the transfer and completion of ongoing projects.

In her role as a member of the Executive Board, Zakia has been an advocate for higher professional education both internally and externally. We thank Zakia for her commitment and collaboration and wish her every success in her future career.

The Supervisory Board is focusing on how to ensure her succession. In the interim, her responsibilities will be assumed by the other members of the Executive Board.

Zakia has sent a personal message about her decision to resign, which you will find below.

“On 1 August I will be leaving Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences after five years of dedication and enjoyment as a member of the Executive Board. I look back with pride on the development in which the education provided by Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences has taken on a role of initiator in shaping solutions to the many existing and future social issues (including digital ethics, equal opportunities, and the change economy). I am convinced that RUAS, in all its richness and diversity, with the combined knowledge of teaching and research, the commitment of students, lecturers and researchers, and the power of diversity, has a direct impact on the shaping of the city, the region of Rotterdam, and also on a broader national level.

I have decided to step down and resign from the Executive Board as of 1 May. A very painful decision, but the right one for me.”
