Expiring licence Het Financieele Dagblad
Dear colleague/student,
Through this route, we would like to inform you of the expiry of our online licence to het Financieele Dagblad on 31 December 2024. (This removes both direct access with reading function and access via the NexisUni database)
In recent years, efforts have been made by us, other educational institutions and our consortium partner Surf to adapt the method of access (on personal accounts) to a more privacy-friendly solution. Unfortunately, the FD media group has been unwilling to adapt the access method or take on the processing role, leading our consortium partner to decide to discontinue the collaboration. Read more
From the library, we then investigated, in collaboration with the privacy officer, whether a direct licence was an option. Unfortunately, due to the large data collection by FD media group and FD's refusal to take on a processor role, this is not an option. This means that digital access to FD cannot take place within a college licence, and therefore students cannot be required to use FD's database for an assignment.
The paper subscription to het Financieele Dagblad will be launched in January, it will be available on the reading table in the library along with The Financial Times.
Right to data erasure!
Under the GDPR, you also have the right to data erasure. We advise users to make use of this right even after termination of the licence, to ensure that FD can no longer use the data collected about you. You can submit a request for data erasure via this link.
Termination of mediation agreement SURF / FD Media
We start from the following principle: If a user at the institution uses a service purchased and offered by the institution and thereby has to transfer his/her personal data to use the services, then the institution is a data controller. This principle comes from the HE Standards Framework Cloud, which is derived from the AVG.
Reason for the termination is that FD Media does not allow the institutions participating in the contract to exercise their processor responsibility.
End users can only use the services by agreeing to FD Media's EULA, creating a direct processor responsibility for the end users. This is contrary to the above principle.
