Are you passionate about introducing art and design students to new developments regarding digital and virtual realities? We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive colleague for the job function of Tutor 3D animation and virtual garment design techniques who has experience in virtual prototyping software and (digital) pattern making, with knowledge in digital fashion making. Do you have a hands-on mentality in making garments and an interest in teaching students 3D visualization software such as CLO 3D, Blender, Maya or 3DCoat? We are looking for an investigative, critical maker who can develop interdisciplinary courses that enable students to navigate and experiment in the digital and virtual realm.

About the Willem de Kooning Academie

The Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (WdKA/RUAS), offers a variety of bachelor and master’s programmes in the field of visual culture, art, design, education in arts, and leisure management. The curriculum of the Willem de Kooning Academy is founded on an interdisciplinary ethos through the Autonomous, Social and Commercial Practices. The Majors are the entry point of study for all Bachelor students; the Practices of the interdisciplinary research contexts in the second half of the Bachelor programs; and the highly unique Stations (advanced workshops focused on Research through Making) complete the three pillars of the institute.

About the Fabric Station

The Fabric Station is a learning environment where students from various subject areas can develop textile and fashion products, and are challenged to (re)develop new materials. The Fabric Station distinguishes itself from a regular fashion and textile studio through its emphasis on research through making with a practical hands-on approach. The Fabric Station is bridges traditional textile techniques with digitalization and sustainability. We focus on innovating new materials, textiles, and garment related products. This also includes strategies such as recycling, remaking, and material development. The wide variety of learning goals of students in turn requires a broad professional knowledge from the team of instructors. Each instructor has their own role and field of expertise. The team helps students to develop their ideas into working projects whilst providing individual consultation, station skills, and lessons. We provide a wide range of skill courses from craft-based approaches to digital technologies to virtual prototyping software lessons.

Job profile

The FS is looking for an enthusiastic colleague who has professional experience working with virtual prototyping software such as CLO 3D or know how to teach a variety of 3D animation software such as, Blender, Maya or 3DCoat. As a candidate you will be experienced in (digital) pattern making software e.g., Lectra or Gerber and can realize garments or textile products.

You are expected to take initiative, operate independently, and be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and students. The positions requires an ability to convert knowledge into advice in a manner that contributes to the development of education within the Willem de Kooning Academy. As a qualified applicant you will contribute course development for programmes concerning digital transformation, diversity and the green shift in art and design education. You will guide students individually and in groups. You also actively participate in a team to create an inspiring work and learning environment.

Job requirements

  • Teaching and developing skill courses in virtual protyping software and 3D visualization software. (The knowledge of CLO 3D software at basic or advanced level is a pre but can also be acquired while starting the position.)
  • Introducing students to (digital) patternmaking techniques at basic and advanced level is an absolute pre
  • You have an affinity for creating 3D shapes and can bridge the digital with the tangible
  • Help keep software / presentation materials / documentation / tools up to date
  • Help manage the workshops and premises
  • Collaborate with staff and colleagues
  • You are experienced or have a proven affinity for education
  • You are communicative and able to guide and motivate students
  • You have a proactive and responsible work ethic
  • You have an education of at least HBO level

Requirements

  • EU/ECC work authorization
  • A good command of verbal and written English (Dutch is a plus)

Conditions

The Willem de Kooning Academy/Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool Rotterdam) offers you a temporary contract as a teacher. The salary range is HBO-CAO scale 10 (€ 2.813,78 to € 4.569,57 gross per month for full-time employment), exclusive of 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.

NB at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences you start as an inexperienced teacher in salary scale 10. This is the starting position in your career as a teacher. You can progress to core lecturer, university lecturer and senior lecturer. For this development it is necessary that you have a master's degree at the next step.

All staff members of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences must be able to submit a Certificate of Conduct (Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag, VOG) issued by the Dutch Minister of Justice and Security.

Caveats

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences works with a limited travel reimbursement (maximum of 20 km).
